JR. STUDENT CONVENTION

TERMS & CONDITIONS


QUALIFICATIONS
1. Contestants may be enrolled in any of the following types of schools:
a. Church School
b. Church Homeschool
c. Institutional School
d. Mission School
e. Private School
f. Parent/Guardian Administered Homeschool
2. All the above must adhere to the following conditions:
a. Compliance with all appearance and dress code standards.
b. Compliance with the conduct code.
c. Compliance with age limitations.
d. Compliance with all event limitations.
e. Homeschool students from different homeschools may combine for group events, provided they register as a single school, and must adhere to the same event limitations as a day school.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER SCHOOL
3. In elimination events (Checkers & Chess) a school is allowed three entries.
4. In Bible Bowl & Spelling a school is allowed three entries.
5. In all other events, a school is allowed six entries per event.
6. One or two students can be in each of the categories of the Science, Social Studies Exhibits and PowerPoint but students can only enter one category at a time. In other words, one student can NOT enter two Science Collection events. The same is true for Duets, Trios, Quartets, Dramatic Dialogue and Puppets.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER INDIVIDUAL

7. A Student can enter 14 events plus 3 athletic events for a total of 17 events. Out of the 14 events a student cannot enter more than 8 performance events. (Performance events are events that require the participant to compete during the actual Convention; that is, all athletic events, speech and drama, Bible Memory, and so on.)
8. A student may enter numerous nonperformance events, as approved by his/her parents. (Nonperformance events are events that only require the participant to submit his/her entry, this includes any virtual events.)
9. The total combined number of performance and nonperformance events must not exceed fourteen.
10. Each contestant may enter no more than three athletic events.
11. A student may not participate in two identical events (that is, two male duets, and so on).
12. Each contestant competing in the in-person part of the convention must be present the entire Convention and must attend all scheduled rallies.

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY
13. Deep South Jr. Student Convention is open to students ages 8 to 12.
a. Students who attain their eighth (8) birthday by December 31st of current year.
b. Students who have not attain their thirteenth (13) birthday by December 31st of
current year.
14. Deep South Jr. Student Convention will be run by Lighthouse Christian School of Valdosta, Georgia.
15. By entering the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, the School accept these Terms and Conditions together with any specific instructions and terms for the Deep South Jr. Student Convention which may be mentioned on-air, in any electronic messages, or on the website, or communicated to School in any other way (“Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information”). Such Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information shall prevail in the event of there being any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and any Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information.
16. We may cancel or amend the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information, or these Terms and Conditions without prior notice. Any changes will be posted either within the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information or these Terms and Conditions. These Terms and Conditions were last updated September 22, 2022.
17. Our decision in all matters to do with the Deep South Jr. Student Convention will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

ENTRY
18. A color photo (snapshot or Polaroid) of the contestant(s) simulating his/her performance MUST BE provided at the time of competition (that is, student holding puppets, singing, and so on). This is not to be a school picture or portrait. For platform events and music events, this must be a snapshot or Polaroid of the contestant or contestants wearing the outfit or costume in which the event will be performed.
19. All students’ events especially virtual events must have the entry name, student’s name, school’s name, school customer number, address, and telephone number listed.
20. Please refer to the appropriate section of the ACE Guidelines for specific details.

EVENTS OF THE HEART

21. The Events of the Heart category is designed to allow students who are not able to be competitive on their own in any events (due to mental limitations) to compete at Student Convention and be recognized at the Awards Ceremony.

A. QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Contestant must meet all International Student Convention qualifications and register at Regional and International Conventions according to convention guidelines.
2. The Qualification Affidavit must accompany judge’s forms and be properly signed.
3. The contestant may participate in all individual events:
a. Alone
b. With the help of another student (not necessarily a student registered as Events of the Heart)
c. With the help of an adult
4. Events of the Heart students may not compete in any events requiring more than two contestants.
5. During the registration process, the sponsor must complete the Events of the Heart Registration Form, listing all events in which the contestant will compete.

B. AWARDS:
1. Events of the Heart contestants will be judged separately in each category.
2. In a category where there is only one Events of the Heart contestant, the student will be awarded a first-place ribbon.
3. In categories where there are multiple Events of the Heart contestants, the entries will be judged, and first- through sixth-place ribbons will be awarded.
4. Ribbons for Events of the Heart will be awarded during an evening rally.

APPEARANCE
22. The manner of appearance and dress of Deep South Jr. Student Convention participants reflects an image of Christian modesty, refinement, and self-discipline. Students and sponsors are expected to support the Deep South Jr. Student Convention image, program, and requirements in appearance and dress. Appropriateness and modesty are the basic principles governing all appearance and dress for the Deep South Jr. Student Conventions. The principle of showing deference should be the lifestyle of Christian leaders. Students and sponsors are to be dressed completely and according to the guidelines upon arrival and while attending the Deep South Jr. Student Convention.
23. The dress code, as stated in the guidelines, must be observed by everyone officially associated with Deep South Jr. Student Convention. Participants, contestants, sponsors, guests (staying on campus) and coaches are to dress in conservative, appropriate, modest attire. Fad extremes are inappropriate and will not be allowed. Participants are asked to show deference to the intent of the appearance guidelines. Violators will be asked to change their clothing or to leave the Convention. Dress requirements will be followed throughout the entire Convention, including ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE. Only those meeting the dress and appearance requirements will be allowed to register and remain on the premises. It is the responsibility of the sponsor to ensure that all students and parents are informed of the dress and appearance guidelines prior to departing for Convention.

THE SPONSOR IS ALSO ACCOUNTABLE FOR ENSURING THAT STUDENTS MEET THE DRESS AND APPEARANCE REQUIREMENTS FOR VIRTUAL
ENTRIES ALSO.

24. Guidelines for Appropriate Dress for anyone attending the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, whether a sponsor, student or guest can be found in the ACE Student Convention Guidelines. (www.aceministries.com)

CONDUCT
25. “Abstain from all appearance of evil” must be the guiding principle of all interaction between the young males and the young females attending the Convention. Maintaining the highest possible standard of behavior is a God-given responsibility. Sponsors and staff should be constantly alert and should not hesitate to correct any behavior that is “unseemly.”
26. At no time are students allowed in cars, buses, vans, or in dimly lit areas without a sponsor.
27. These guidelines are applicable to all Convention attendees.
28. Things NOT Permitted on Campus: Tobacco, Firearms/weapons, Toy guns of any kind (except those used for competition props), Alcohol, Narcotics, MPS Players, CD players/DCs (except those used for competition), Video games, Fireworks, Television sets, Clock radios, Secular magazines and books, skateboards/roller blades, Sneaker skates or Scooters.
29. Only SPONSORS and ADULT GUESTS are allowed to have cell phones.

MEDICAL
30. Deep South Jr. Student Convention does not provide an infirmary or medical staff for the Convention. Sponsors should be prepared to deal with minor problems, such as headaches and small scratches. All schools must be responsible for their own first-aid supplies.
31. Each student registered to attend the in-person part of the convention must submit a Consent to Emergency Health Care and Indemnification Form (CF8). Each person must provide his/her own medical and accident insurance. The Consent to Emergency Health Care and Indemnification Form includes a statement releasing Deep South Jr. Student Convention from responsibility and liability for any medical expenses incurred during the Convention
or travel to/from the Convention area.

JUDGING
32. Decisions of the judges are final.
33. Judge’s forms will be returned (when possible) to the school’s sponsor following the inperson part of the convention.
34. For the Virtual Events, Judges will make comments to help the student when possible.

DEFERENCE
35. In order to show deference to those who practice denominational distinctives at their local churches, sponsors and/or contestants are asked to refrain from discussing denominational distinctives with anyone outside their own group during the in-person part of the Convention.

REGISTRATION AND PROCEDURES
36. Schools must register by October 1st and pay the School’s Registration Fee at that time.
37. The closing time and date for receipt of entries is October 28, 2022. All events must be UPLOADED in ordered to be judged.
38. After October 28, 2022 events can be dropped but none can be added.
39. All art/craft events that will be delivered to 4565 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, GA must be set up by October 31, 2022. Shipped art/craft events will need to be shipped by October 28, in order for us to have them set up by October 31st for the judges.
40. Those who will be attending in person must check-in on Thursday, November 10, 2022, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
41. Competition starts on Thursday @ 10:00 a.m. ending with a Rally & Awards @ 4 p.m.
42. The Rally & Awards program will be on Lighthouse Christian School’s Facebook Page (www.lcsministry.org)
43. Follow the ISC Guideline for all events.
44.To enter the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, Schools must do the following:
a) Register an account and upload and submit their video entry. Video files created using most digital cameras, camcorders and mobile phones such as in the .AVI, .MOV, .WMV, and .MPG file formats, are accepted
b) Read and accept the terms and conditions and provide additional contact details so we can contact you if you are selected as a Finalist. Your details will be used solely for the purpose of administrating the competition.
45. A Contestant’s Video entries must be entirely original to the Contestant, feature only the Contestant’s voice and not include the voice or other sounds made by third parties/people.
46. Entries must be completed in accordance with the entry process set out above. No other method of entry will be accepted. Entries which do not meet these criteria may not be considered.
47. Entries will not be complete until Schools have uploaded their video entry and accepted these Terms and Conditions. We reserve the right to disqualify any entries submitted and/or finalized after the Deep South Jr. Student Convention has closed.
48. The school must keep a digital or hard copy of their video entry. If required, schools must supply the original recording of their video entry for use in connection with the Contest, including (but not limited to) for potential broadcast online or transmission by any electronic means.
49. All video entries will be subject to moderation. We and/or their agents have absolute discretion to accept or reject any video entry and to remove any video entry already accepted without giving reasons for the decision. We may in particular refuse to upload any video entry for the following reasons:
(a) must meet the ACE Student Conventions Guidelines;
(b) inclusion of defamatory or malicious content;
(c) inclusion of content in video entries to which someone else owns the copyright or other intellectual property rights, such as music, singing, trademarks, logos, insignia, location signage, sculpture, posters, pictures, photographs or other artwork, music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programmes, or films made by other users, without the requisite authorizations;
(d) breach of these Terms and Conditions
50. By entering the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Schools warrant that all information submitted by them is true, current, and complete. Schools also warrant that they are the copyright owners of their video entries which must be original works and must not infringe the intellectual property rights, privacy, or any other rights of a third party.
51. By entering the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, Schools understand and agree that:
(a) the School grant us a worldwide, royalty free, perpetual, irrevocable, sub-licensable and transferable license which shall be exclusive for worldwide broadcast online and nonexclusive for all other forms of media to use their entries for whatever urpose including, without limitation, in connection with (i) any Programme produced in relation to the Deep South Jr. Student Convention or containing any information in relation to the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, including, without limitation, promotion and redistributing part or all of any such Programme (and derivative works thereof), and (ii) our internet websites, wireless applications, interactive television, video on demand and any other media or technology (including, without limitation, internet protocol, wireless or interactive platforms or interfaces) through which we distribute content to end users, whether now existing or hereafter developed in any and all media formats and through any and all media distribution and advertising and promotional purposes, without accounting, notification, credit, payment, or other obligation to Schools. For the avoidance of doubt, these rights include, without limitation, the absolute right to edit and/or alter any entry, distribute and synchronize all or any portion of any entry in timed relation to any other visual elements; to web cast, pod cast, re-publish, re-broadcast, re-platform, port, syndicate, route, and link to and from all or any portion of any entry; to encrypt, encode and decode, and compress and decompress all or any portion of any entry; to edit, mix, combine, merge, distort, superimpose, create or add special effects, illusions and/or other material to or of all or any portion of any entry; to create composite, stunt, comic or unusual photographs, videos, animations, motion pictures and/or voice reproductions from all or a portion of any entry; and to excerpt and/or extract portions of any entry in order to host, store, index, categorize and display entries on or through the Platforms. We reserve the right to use (or not use) Schools’ entries at all and/or as little of the entry as we so choose;
(b) the school ensure the Competition Parties from any claim in respect of their entry;
(c) to the extent permitted by applicable law, the schools unconditionally give us their consent to any act or omission that would otherwise infringe on any moral rights they may have in and in relation to their entries, and they undertake that they will not institute, maintain or support any claim or proceeding for infringement of any moral rights you they may have in and/or in relation to their entries.
52. None of our, (including their employees, officers, servants, agents) or any other party or organization (including their, employees, officers, servants, agents) involved in the management, promotion, or administration of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, or its entry, or implementation of any prize (or their agents or subsidiaries involved in any way in the Deep South Jr. Student Convention or any prize) (together the “Deep South Jr. Student Convention Parties”) will accept responsibility or liability for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft, destruction, alteration of, or unauthorized access to entries, or entries lost or delayed whether or not arising during operation or transmission as a result of server functions (including but not limited to security functions by software used by us or any third party), virus, bugs, or other causes outside its control. Proof of submission online is not proof of receipt by us.
53. Any entries which are incomplete, incorrect, inaudible, incomprehensible, may be void.
54. In the event of any fault, mistake, misunderstanding or dispute concerning the correctness or acceptability of the entry, or the operation of any part of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention, or the interpretation of these Terms and Conditions, the decision we make shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
55. We will not be liable to reimburse any expenses incurred in entering the Deep South Jr. Student Convention.
56. We reserve the right to disqualify any School and/or entries which it believes have not been made in compliance with these Terms and Conditions or to disqualify any School found to have tampered with the entry process or the operation of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to threaten, abuse or harass any other person.

JUDGING / OVERALL ENGAGEMENT
57.The Judges will begin to judge the events they have selected to judge. You may be subject to your standard internet access charges or data charges if you are using a web browser on your mobile phone.
58. We reserve the right to disallow any event if it does not meet the standard set forth by the ACE Student Convention Guidelines and with the Terms & Conditions.
59. The Event who receives the highest number will be the Contest winner.
60. In the event of an equal number of votes, all tied Events will be judged by our team, who will determine at its sole discretion which Event should win the Contest.
61. All the events will be awarded at the last Rally on Thursday, October 10, 2022. For schools that only participate in the virtual part of the convention will have their awards mailed to them as soon as possible after the Rally.
62. We may in its sole discretion refuse to provide the Prize, or seek its recovery, in the event of non-entitlement under these Terms and Conditions or a Contestant's breach of these Terms and Conditions, fraud, dishonesty, or other inappropriate or improper conduct.

DATA PROTECTION AND PUBLICITY
63. The Award’s List will be posted on Lighthouse Christian School webpage for a minimum period of three months.
64. We may exercise its sole discretion to use all Schools’ names, addresses, images, and their comments relating to the Deep South Jr. Student Convention experience for promotion of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes in any media worldwide without notice and without any fee being paid.
65. The information Schools supply in connection with the Deep South Jr. Student Convention (including their personal details):
(a) may be included in a database compiled for the Deep South Jr. Student Convention and will be used for the purposes of selecting the winners of each event;
(b) may also be used for inclusion and/or read out in any programmed produced in connection with the Deep South Jr. Student Convention; and
(c) will not be supplied to third parties (other than the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Parties) other than as is reasonably necessary to select Finalists and administer the Deep South Jr. Student Convention
66. Any personal information provided by the schools, will only be used by us in accordance with its Privacy Statement which is accessible for the purposes of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention or as otherwise set out in these Terms and Conditions.

LIABILITY
67. Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall exclude or limit the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Parties’ liability for death or personal injury caused by their staff or supplier's negligence or for fraud. Subject to this, none of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Parties can accept any responsibility for any damage, loss, injury or disappointment suffered by any School entering the Deep South Jr. Student Convention or as a result of accepting the Prize. None of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Parties are responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any computer on-line systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software failure of any email or entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any
web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to School’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the Deep South Jr. Student Convention.
68. None of the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Parties promise that the services relating to the Deep South Jr. Student Convention will be free from errors or omissions nor that they will be available uninterrupted and in a fully operating condition. These services may be suspended temporarily and without notice in the case of system failure, maintenance or repair or for reasons reasonably beyond the control of any Deep South Jr. Student Convention Party. We will not be liable in the event that all or any part of the service relating to the Contest is discontinued, modified or changed in any way.

STANDARD TERMS
69. In the event that any School does not, or is unable to, comply with and meet these Terms and Conditions and the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information, we shall be entitled at its sole discretion to disqualify such School, without any further liability to such School. In these circumstances, any prize won by the school may be forfeited. All Schools must comply with any directions given by any Deep South Jr. Student Convention Party including but not limited to any and all relevant laws, rules and regulations, and where applicable.
70. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Terms and Conditions shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Terms and Conditions shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
71. These Terms and Conditions and the Deep South Jr. Student Convention Information shall be exclusively governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England.
